‘Where It’s At!’ is a brand new social and learning experience for people with Autism and Learning Differences starting in July 2015. The event is held every Thursday evening from 5pm – 8pm at The Customs Space in South Shields.
The idea came about due to a lack of social opportunities in the area and the group members themselves have come up with everything from the name to devising the activities. ‘Where It’s At!’ offers participants the chance to make new friends, learn new things, be creative and have fun. Activities include Film Making, Singing, Music, Art, Fashion, Photography, Video Games, Disco, Pizza Making, Movie Night, Games, Chill out, Chat and more.
AutismAble is ran by a group of qualified, DBS checked tutors and support staff who specialise in Autism and other learning disabilities. The Customs Space is an Autism Friendly venue and it’s facilities include a music studio, sports pitch, breakout area and main hall. There is also a pop-up café serving snacks and drinks.
The social evening is open to all aged 16 and over and support carers and parents are welcome to stay if needed. Anyone can become a member of AutismAble and the membership fee is just £3 for the year with entrance fee is of £2 per week.
