Success story for graduates Melissa and Shaun

We are delighted to announce another success story for two of our students.

Melissa Binyon and Shaun Armour (both from South Shields) completed a Level 2 Supporting Adults with Learning Disabilities qualification and have moved straight into paid employment as Learning Disability Champions with local advocacy organisation ‘Your Voice Counts’.  The posts have been funded by the South Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group.

Melissa 23 and Shaun 25, both have Autism and learning Disabilities themselves. They enrolled on the course in November last year and completed a work placement supporting peers with various disabilities.  When they completed the course, they were signposted towards employment opportunities in the sector and they have both been successful in securing these jobs.

Melissa said: “This is my first ever paid employment and I received great support from the Autism Able team right through to the job application itself. “

“I’m getting a wide variety of experience working with people with varying disabilities. – the people I am working with need different types of support from practical things like reading, to emotional support. It’s built up my confidence massively.

Shaun said: “ I learned a lot on the course and can’t wait to apply my knowledge in a real working environment.  I’m thankful to Autism Able for supporting me and encouraging me to go for the job.
