We’re delighted to share that our Empowered Beauty project has recently been featured in the Shields Gazette, showcasing the incredible work our group members are doing to build their confidence, develop skills, and connect with the local community.
Empowered Beauty is one of our most exciting new projects, offering our members the opportunity to deliver nail painting and hand and arm massage treatments every Tuesday from 10am–12pm.
The project is designed to support real-life skill development in a supportive and meaningful way. Alongside learning beauty techniques, our members are building confidence in communication, customer service, booking appointments, handling money, and working as part of a team.
Our Service Manager, Amari Smith, who leads the project, said:
“Empowered Beauty has been a true passion project for me. As a qualified beauty therapist, I was driven to share my skills with the incredible group members at AutismAble.
My goal was to help them build confidence, strengthen communication and money management skills, and offer them a chance to gain meaningful, real-world work experience.
Watching the project evolve and seeing our salon take shape alongside our members has been nothing short of inspiring.
Their dedication, the effort they’ve poured into practicing, and the skills they’ve developed are truly remarkable. Now, they’re brimming with excitement to showcase their talents and share what they’ve learned with others.”
Hannah, one of our Empowered Beauty members, said: “I enjoy doing nails and learning how to give hand massages,” and Peter added: “I want to learn how to do nails properly.”
Each session is open to members of the public, with treatments costing just £5. All funds raised go directly back into the group, with members getting to choose how the money is spent, helping them develop independence, decision-making skills, and a sense of ownership.
