Here at AutismAble, we are incredibly passionate about enabling our members to turn their aspirations into reality. As part of their Dragon’s Den Project, Shaun, one of our members, came up with a fantastic idea, to launch a Geek Cafe. His business concept was incredibly well thought out, and his passion for his idea shone through, and we were delighted to help make this a reality.

Shaun’s Vision

Shaun’s idea for the Geek Cafe was to create a space where people could come together to enjoy games, socialise, and ‘get their geek on’. His plan included a variety of card and video games, a cafe and a tuck shop.   

Making the Geek Cafe a Reality

Recognising the potential and passion behind Shaun’s idea, as well as the gap in the market, we worked closely with him to bring the Geek Cafe to life. With his guidance, the Geek Cafe runs at our brand-new Youth Hub every Saturday morning from 10 am to 12 pm.

Shaun’s Role

Shaun played a key role in every aspect of the Geek Cafe:

• Setup and Games: The selection of games and the overall setup of the cafe have been entirely decided by Shaun.
• Mentorship: As a mentor at the cafe, Shaun encourages members to participate in games and socialise with each other. 
• Marketing: Shaun has also helped promote the Geek Cafe by designing posters and flyers.

Impact

The Geek Cafe has become a popular addition to South Tyneside, attended by an average of 13 people each week. It is a shining example of how we put our members’ ideas into action.
